The Nepali Congress (NC) has appointed Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat as the spokesperson of the party.
Mahat 63, has been appointed to the spokesperson by the party president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Mahat holds a Ph.D. in economics from Southern Illinois University, the US.
Mahat has been appointed to the vacant post after the outgoing spokesperson Bishwaprakash Sharma was elected as the general secretary from the 14th general convention.
Mahat, who was earlier the joint general secretary, had contested for the post of general secretary from the panel of president Sher Bahadur Deuba at the 14th general convention.
But Mahat, who lost the election, was nominated by Deuba as the Central Working Committee member.
According to the NC’s provision, a spokesperson should be selected from among the Central members.
Mahat, a former foreign and energy minister, is regarded as one of the very close people to NC’s president Deuba.
