People get mental stress due to various reasons.
Different people may be stressed due to different reasons. According to Dr. Ranjan Thapa, a psychiatrist at the Neuro Cardio and Multi-Specialty Hospital, Stress affects the mental as well as physical health of the person.
Insomnia, loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue, depression, mood swings, and anxiety disorders are some of the symptoms caused by mental stress. He says it can even lead to severe mental illness. But Stress can also cause physical problems for people.
According to him, fatigue, restlessness, tingling in the hands and feet, heartburn, burping, gastritis, constipation, and even stomach-related issues occur frequently.
Other symptoms include chest pain, chest tightness, increased heart rate, increased breathing, increased blood pressure, and increased blood sugar levels.
Gastroenterologist at Birat Medical College and Teaching Hospital, Dr. Narendra Pandit explains mental stress can cause different stomach-related issues. According to him, Ulcers in the large and small intestine, gastric ulcers, bleeding, ulcerative colitis, and other diseases related to the digestive system can be caused due to excessive stress.
Diseases related to the digestive system can cause abdominal pain, nausea, recurrent vomiting, vomiting of blood, indigestion, lumps in the abdomen, jaundice, feeling difficulty swallowing food, and bleeding from the anus.
