India has won the first T20I against the West Indies by six wickets.
India won the toss and elected to field in the first of the three T20Is starting yesterday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Batting first, West Indies lost seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs and scored 157 runs.
Nicholas Pooran was the top scorer for West Indies with 61 runs.
Apart from Pooran, Kyle Mayers scored 31 runs and Kieron Pollard scored 24 runs. The performance of other players was not the best.
West Indies made 17 extra runs with 11 wides and 6 leg bye.
Ravi Vishnoi, who made his T20I debut for India, took two wickets to stop the West Indies in the middle.
Apart from Bishnoi, Harshal Patel took two wickets while Yuzvendra Chahal, Deepak Chahar, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took one wicket each.
India achieved the target of 158 runs with seven balls to spare.
Captain Rohit Sharma made 40 runs for India. Ishan Kishan and Surya Kumar Yadav contributed 35 and 34 runs respectively.
While Venkatesh Iyer assisted the team with 24 runs, Virat Kohli scored 17 runs.
India was gifted four runs by West Indies with 3 wides and a leg bye.
Even though Roston Chase took two wickets, it was not enough for the team to win.
Apart from Chase, Fabian Allen and Sheldon Cottrell took one wicket each to destroy India’s innings.
But India played a very balanced game and won the game.
Bishnoi who made his first appearance for India in T20I was chosen the man of the match of today’s game.
Roston Chase was the first victim of Bishnoi’s spin. Chase walked back to the pavilion on the 10th over.
Man of the Match Bishnoi’s second wicket was of Rovman Powell. Powell was caught on long-on.
With the victory, India leads the three-match series 1-0.
The West Indies, who are on a tour of India, will now play their second T20I match against India on February 18 and their third match on February 20 in Kolkata.
