Complaints have been filed against more than 50 Youtube channels in the past year.
According to the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police, complaints have been filed against 56 Youtube channels in one year. In recent years online fraud and cyber crimes have gradually increased in the country .
‘YouTubers are usually accused of defamation, libel, and misuse of the right to privacy’ says police. According to the Cyber Bureau, in the fiscal year 2075/76 four complaints of cybercrimes were filed whereas the number increased to 8 in the fiscal year 2076/77.
And 56 in the fiscal year 2077/78. Likewise, three thousand four hundred and 51 complaints of cybercrime using Facebook have been filed in the fiscal year 2077/78. Complaints of crime using Facebook have also surged in this period.
According to the Cyber Bureau, in the fiscal year 2075/76 as many as 343 complaints of cybercrime using Facebook were registered and in the fiscal year 2076/77 the number surged to two thousand two hundred and 50.
The majority of the victims of cybercrimes in Nepal are minors and women.
