Nepal is competing with Canada in the final match of the group stage of the ICC T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers today.
Both teams want to win the game at Al Amerat Cricket Stadium in Oman.
Nepal wants to secure a place in the semi-finals as the group winner beating Canada in the match which will start at 3:45 PM (NST).
Nepal has won both the previous matches.
Nepal, who is in the sub-group B of group A under the Global Qualifiers, tops the table with the highest four points.
In the first match played on February 18, Nepal defeated Oman by 39 runs.
Similarly, Nepal has registered its second consecutive victory against the Philippines by 136 runs.
It will not be easy for Nepal to win against Canada.
Canada, who had a good start in the World Cup Global Qualifiers by defeating the Philippines by 118 runs in their first match, could be a headache for Nepal.
In the second match, Canada lost to host Oman by a huge margin of nine wickets.
Despite being in second place with two points, Canada will be under more pressure as Oman, who are in third place with the equal points, will play against the weakest nation of the group, Philippines.
Nepal, at the top of the group, is far ahead in net run rate with 4.375.
Therefore, Nepal’s semi-final journey is almost certain despite losing by a narrow margin in today’s game.
Nepal will have to reach at least the final of the ongoing Global Qualifiers to qualify for the T20 World Cup which is scheduled to be held in Australia from October 16 to November 13 this year.
With today’s game, the semi-final match of Group A of the Global Qualifiers is coming to an end.
If Nepal can make it to the finals from the four nations that will reach the semi-finals, Nepal’s T20 World Cup journey will be assured.
