Tedros Adanom Gebreis, Director-General of The World Health Organization (WHO) stated omicron is more dangerous for unvaccinated.
Speaking to reporters Wednesday Tedros urged everyone to be vaccinated and stay safe.
“Omicron is less likely to cause serious illness than Delta but is dangerous for those who have not been vaccinated.
“The rate of Omicron infection is increasing rapidly worldwide. It means the number of cases in hospitals is increasing which results in more deaths.
The Omicron variant, first seen in South Africa, has spread to 149 countries worldwide by the first week of January 2022.
According to alarming figures from the WHO 15 million people have been infected with omicron worldwide.
